About Me

My name is Kari Reynolds, and my first piece of art was a self-portrait poked into the back of my bedroom door with a thumbtack. I was a kid, I was in time out, and I had nothing but a door and a thumbtack and too much energy to sit still with. Looking back, that's probably the truest artist statement I'll ever make. Give me almost nothing and I'll find a way to make something out of it.

Creating has been part of my life ever since. Over the years I tried on medium after medium, looking for the one that actually fit. It wasn't until I found wool and needle felting that I felt like I'd come home. There's something about working with fiber that painting and drawing never gave me: real texture, something you can almost feel just by looking at it. That texture does a lot of quiet work. It pulls a viewer into a piece in a way flat color never quite manages on its own.

These days I'm also a mom of three, which means my life runs in about four directions at once most days. My art is the place where all of that noise gets to settle. Every piece I make, layer by layer, needle by needle, is a way of centering myself in the middle of a pretty chaotic world.

I live in Utah, and under the name Izzy Lou Art, I create original framed needle felted landscapes inspired by the beauty that surrounds me here, and fine art prints, made for the walls of everyday spaces, and made from a lifelong habit of turning whatever I have on hand into something worth looking at.
