The Last Gift
The Last Gift
There's an old story that sunflowers are the earth's final gift of the year. They bloom tall and golden right before the cold sets in, offering their seeds to the birds and animals who will need them most. When the fields are especially full of sunflowers, it's said to be a warning that a hard winter is on its way, and the earth is giving a little extra so everyone has enough to store away.
I love that idea: a flower that is both a farewell and a promise. This piece leans in close, letting the bloom spill past the edges of the frame the way late-summer sunflowers seem to overflow every field. Golden petals are layered with flecks of orange and soft lavender shadows. Each one reaches out against a cool, sage-blue sky that hints at the season to come. At the center, the deep brown seed head is threaded with strands of gold, full and heavy, ready to be shared.
It's a reminder that even goodbyes can be generous.
